Video: Japan’s best dram?

Tatsuya Minagawa is the owner of The Highlander Inn in Craigellachie, Speyside. In the video above he introduces one of his favourite (and rare) Japanese whiskies by acclaimed makers, Chichibu, which became the first new distillery in Japan since 1973 when it was launched in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto.

If you want to sample Chichibu, you’ll need deep pockets and be an avid scanner of whisky auctions (or seek them out in a top whisky bar like Tatsuya’s). The distillery produces only limited quantities in small batches, making them difficult to source, with a hefty price tag, often running into four figures.
